DRAKA PUBLISHES 2008 EDITION OF CABLE & TABLE HANDBOOK
Draka has published the 2008 edition of its cable and table handbook called A Closer Look at Cable. This latest edition of the pocket-sized handbook incorporates the recent revisions of Approved Document B (Fire safety) of the Building Regulations, and the 17th Edition of the Institution of Engineering and Technology – formerly the IEE – Wiring Regulations that come into force on 1st July this year. The handbook runs to over 200 pages and, like its predecessor, is expected to become essential reading for anyone involved in specifying or installing cabling –architects, fire engineers, system designers and installers.
The handbook is illustrated throughout and covers cable design, materials and functions, quality standards and legislation, and fire performance testing. Nearly a third of the pages are devoted to general electrical data, embracing such topics as cable installation, current ratings and conductor resistance. A Closer Look at Cable also includes detailed information on Draka’s current cable offering, including its most recent product launches. These are Saffire 0HLS – Zero Halogen Low Smoke – a new generation cable that sets a higher level of fire safety performance, and Firetuf Powerplus, a new 600/1000V steel wired armoured power cable that provides enhanced circuit integrity performance to meet the demanding requirements of BS 7346-6:2005.
“A Closer Look at Cable underpins Draka’s commitment to offering its customers world-class support, and complements the company’s technical enquiry and design service functions that were expanded following the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order,” says Mark Froggatt, Draka’s Marketing Services Manager. He continues: “It is packed with information on bending radii, installation guidance notes, useful tables and charts, together with extracts from British Standards and IE&T Wiring Regulations.”
A Closer Look at Cable retails at £25, however bona fide specifiers and installers can apply for a copy by telephone on +44 (0) 1332 345431, by fax on +44 (0) 1332 331237, and via email at firetuf@draka.com.
