DRAKA FOCUSED ATTENTION ON APPROVED DOCUMENT B POWER CABLE SOLUTION

Draka chose Firex South to showcase its new Firetuf Powerplus 600/1000V SWA [Steel Wired Armoured] power cable that provides enhanced circuit integrity performance to meet the demanding requirements of BS 7346-6:2005.  It is, the company believes, the only third-party approved cable on the market that satisfies the stringent requirements of Clause 5.38 of Approved Document B (Fire safety) of the Building Regulations, which came into effect last April.

This independent accreditation is, Draka says, a particularly important consideration.  It should be demanded by every specifier and installer, bearing in mind that the Fire Safety Order and the wider adoption of fire engineering solutions has made the market far more conscious of the need to use only proven, third-party approved, top quality products.

Firetuf Powerplus is an OHLS – Zero Halogen Low Smoke – cable that is accredited by the LPCB [Loss Prevention Certification Board] across its entire size range.  It is designed for large or complex buildings and fire engineered buildings where it is essential that power circuits continue to function for the dependable operation of sophisticated fire detection and alarm systems; smoke venting systems; electrically-operated fire doors and smoke curtains; firefighting lifts; pressurisation and depressurisation fans; motor-driven smoke control dampers; and pumps for sprinkler systems and wet-risers.

The company also showed its new Saffire cable range at Firex South, which extends the safety benefits of OHLS cables to a much wider marketplace.  Visitors to the stand were given the opportunity to pick up a copy of a new Draka catalogue that includes the entire line-up of Firetuf cables, and the latest edition of its widely acclaimed cables and tables handbook, which has been updated to incorporate the recently introduced 17th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations.
