Connecta cuts cable installation costs

Draka has published a new ten-page illustrated brochure for its Firetuf Connecta zero halogen, low smoke [OHLS] modular wiring system, which has recently been used on a number of major tunnel lighting and power projects, such as the Dublin Port Tunnel and London Underground’s Waterloo & City line.  Connecta also features prominently in Draka’s recently introduced 16-page fire performance brochure and its new 200-page cable and table handbook, A Closer Look at Cable.

Much of Connecta’s growing international success comes from its significant time and cost ease-of-installation advantages, and its superb fire performance, which ensures that lighting can continue to function if one section of the circuit is involved in a fire.  It is based on Firetuf power or armoured OHLS cable and is available in both fire resistant and flame retardant designs.  It provides ingress protection to IP67.

Every Connecta installation is manufactured and delivered with predetermined lengths of Draka cable between the factory-fitted moulded Connecta socket outlets.  Secondary outlets to individual appliances are taken from the primary cables via moulded Connecta plugs, resulting in fast installation that minimises the site labour requirement and reduces the overall project timescale.  Connecta Installations also require minimal maintenance.

Other high-profile Connecta contracts have included the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, tunnels at Heathrow’s new Terminal 5, and on the Singapore Mass Transit rail network.
